Great New Item on www.blabthis.com RCA 4 Device Remote for $7.99!

From our friends at BlabThis!:

Hey Blabbers! So, this isn't as exciting as the Pronto TSU9200
that we chatted about last week, but this baby is a whole lot cheaper! (like $290 cheaper!) The RCA 4 Device Universal Remote is a perfect replacement remote, or a perfect consolidation remote for a secondary TV. (We got one to work the DVD player and TV in the kids playroom. It has reduced the "Dad, how do you start the DVD player calls by exactly 91.37% Awesome....) This simple remote handles most TVs, most cable boxes, and it comes with a code book that makes set up a snap. There is also a fully programmable AUX button.

So, this nifty remote may not be the full meaning of true power like the Pronto, but for under $8, you get a rockin' multi-device remote that can make your life pretty sweet.

  • Controls most brands of TV, DVD, VCR/aux & satellite/cable
  • Fully backlit;
  • Aux button can be programmed for any video component
  • Brand search for codes
  • Auto code search
  • Code library supports PVR/DVR, TV/DVD or DVD/VCR combinations & portable DVD players
  • Sleep Timer
  • Trilingual owner's manual (Eng/Fr/Sp)
  • Requires 2 AA batteries

Time for Savings

So, gang, I understand that you are probably tired of me talking about saving money. Well, let me tell you something. I am a recovering spender. I never saved a penny, and then stuff would happen, like a job hiccup, or a major house repair, or whatever. So now I am crazy for savings.

I have just started to really focus on retirement savings and have discovered the ShareBuilder 401K plan. While this link is mostly for businesses that want to offer a 401K plan to their employees, I think it makes sense to check it out. There is a wealth of information available about savings, and tax advantages. ShareBuilder 401K

The High Cost of Healthcare...Drugstore.com to the rescue!

Hey Gang, here are a few things about the cost of healthcare. First of all, health insurance is an absolute neccessity. (Trust me, I have been without it and the retail costs are simply outrageous, and in some place, like Massachusetts, where I live, health insurance is mandatory!) But there are other ways to save, like a Flexible Spending Account. FSAs, as they are known, are a great way to maximize your tax savings on stuff you buy anyway, like bandaids, over the counter medicines, etc. Your tax advisor will have more information about it, but I think that they are a really smart idea.

The follow up question I have been researching is where to spend the FSA dollars in the most effective way. One place that I have found that has great prices is Drugstore.com.

You should really check out their prescription services too. They are cheaper than the prescription prices at Walgreens.

So, check out drugstore.com, check out an FSA and start saving some cash!

Valentine's Day Sweets for Your Sweets: Save 12% at David's Cookies expires 2/15/08

So, Valentine's Day is all about indulgence, right? Sensuous yummies to inspire the mind, heart, and....uhhhh...other regions? Well, for me, cookies are always warming for the heart. (They don't do a lot for the mind or the more southerly regions, unless you are talking about expanding my waistline, but I digress.) Cookies can be a great way to show someone that you are thinking of them, are a great gift to send to an office, etc. David's cookies has a great coupon that is good through 02/15/08.

Valentine's Day Sales

Hey Gang, I know that Valentines day is just around the corner and we are always out looking for gifts to give to our respective sweeties. Here is a fact from Michelle Singletary at http://www.washingtonpost.com/: the average man spends $300 on V-day, and the average woman, under $70. Oooofff. That hurts. Some ways to make it easier:
  1. Do something together...for free! Here in Boston, the Museum of Fine Arts (http://www.mfa.org/) is free admission one night a week. Fun, romantic and FREE!
  2. Make a Donation to an organization that warms the cockles (where are they exactly, I know the venticles and the chambers, but never really found the cockles) of your sweetheart's heart. Imagine a gift to the Susan B. Komen Foundation that will show off your sensitive side, and that is probably TAX DEDUCTIBLE!
  3. Instead of spending some serious coin at Chez Expensive, do a little shopping before and make a great meal with some good wine at home. Who knows what may sizzle while you are cooking!?!

Nothing here fits the bill? Well, at least you can save some cash and get your sweetie a watch at up to 60% off (follow the save an extra 10% link on the following page) with free shipping:

500 Swiss Army knives - watches, blowout to 50% off with free shipping

And take her/him to a museum, too. It'll be fun...I promise.
